The body contains no more than half a teaspoon of zinc, yet the trace element zinc is present in each and every one of our 70 billion body cells. Two thirds of the body's zinc is available in our muscle tissue and the remaining one third is found mainly in the skin, hair and nail cells, the retina of our eyes and in our sex organs. The tiny element is present in more than 100 enzymes of the body or helping them work.
Every second, zinc-dependent enzymes contributes to performing a vast multitude of chemical reactions in the human organism, for instance, when metabolising carbohydrates, for energy production, for protein assimilation and dissimilation, in the production of red blood cells and for keeping the skin and pancreas healthy.
Furthermore, zinc can help to keep us concentrated and alert. This trace element can assist the concentration hormone that the pituitary gland produces. The concentration hormone is responsible for waking all life on earth every morning and putting us in the alert state of mind necessary for survival. At the same time the concentration hormone is disbursed, the peptide beta-endorphin is discharged, which is responsible for putting us in good spirits for tackling the day. Finally, zinc also plays a part in the immune system. It helps to provide the white blood cells with vigour and defensive armour.
Zinc can also help to light our inner fire and increase our vigour. Together with protein and vitamin B6 (all contained in Spirulina & Zinc) it produces the gonad gland hormone testosterone. Testosterone is the hormone responsible for the libido – the inner strength and drive of men as well as women. Although women have only one tenth of the testosterone level of men, their states of wakefulness and tiredness, their ups and downs, feelings of lacking the drive, and their libido are still directly tied to their level of testosterone.
